I knew I will use this picture that I took in Bow at some point. It has a child head on it and it’s blank. That was my idea at the very beginning. From the beginning my concept was to mix photography with drawings. Photograph is the reality and drawing is the imagination.
I have drawn a hand in Photoshop again using my drawing pad. I have tried drawing digitally before but it never felt right. In this instance I find it convenient.
I admire the power of Adobe software but it does require patience. I have created a handwritten type effect in Adobe Effects and then using Position option I have adjusted the hand to the type. Here is the outcome
I am actually really proud of this as this 7 seconds part took a lot of planning not even knowing if I will be able to achieve the effect that I wanted.
The only time I have used After Effects in my previous animation was to create the TV effect and remove green screen and now I am hooked on it. I also wanted to create a girl drawing a picture on the wall but I will see if I have enough time.
Part 2 Kite
I have created another drawing of the girl holding a kite. The kite I have animated before and talked about it in my blog Children of the future
I have amended the opacity to make it look more like a ghost or some distant memory and I think it works well.
I had some good intentions to draw in Adobe Premiere and do the string for the kite however I haven’t ticked the box to draw in each frame and things got a bit messy. May try again when I get time.
Because I haven’t animated the cartoon girl much then I decided to animate her mouth to make her laugh. It came out a bit funny as she looks like she is chewing something or ate something sour. I have watched “Spirited Away” and inspired too much by Japanese animators (not comparing myself to them at all ha). It didn’t require too many frames as I wanted to keep it simple for now.
Editing audio still remains something I wanna get my hands on but I know is difficult. Once I am more efficient in Adobe software I will defo spend more time on it. There is so much that can be done with one sound but I am yet to discover all that.
Here is the version of kite scene redone. I have used the version of kids laughing that I have redone in Adobe Audition to make it sound distant yet it came out creepy.
Even though I struggled with the theme of the project I believe I found myself in doing what I think I can do best. I am not saying I am the best but whatever I have created is self-taught and for a person with literally one year experience it is a progress. I challenge myself in a way that sometimes I think that I may not complete my tasks on time but I need to do it to keep myself interested and motivated.
