Case study: Massimo Vignelli

Me and type is a long story. Maybe that is why I was dreading this project in the sense that it doesn’t matter how much I try to avoid type, making a book I will have to use it. I know avoiding is not a solution but the problem is with my typography that sometimes I think it is good but I receive a negative feedback on it.

I am talking about type as Massimo Vignelli, an Italian designer, seems to have all the knowledge. Here is a video of him talking about type and in particular typeface: Helvetica

Here is few of my reflections after watching the video.

Helvetica is a very clear type,  it is a font that is modern and the use for it can be very broad. How I would see it it is a safe choice for someone who is still not that familiar with use of type.

I personally opted for Futura for my book.  When I have done a research on most professional fonts that was on the list and I am not sure how to explain it but it goes well with my work. Or it might be just again my opinion that some people won’t see how I see it.
