Research: Art on the underground

Time for the practicalities. I have done some research to see how possible it would be for the exhibition to take place in the tube station. I have found this website.

Art on the Underground is a pioneer in commissioning contemporary artworks that enrich the journeys of millions on the Tube every day. From large-scale commissions at Gloucester Road station to the pocket Tube map cover commissions.

In my case I wouldn’t be exhibiting my personal work but the project  created for the university that would include pictures from the Bethnal Green disaster that weren’t taken by me. Let me see however what contacts would I have to make if I wanted to display my animation in the Tube station.

Here is few examples of how artists displayed their work in underground

Night Tube map commission: Samara Scott

Brixton based artist Zineb Sedira has created an ambitious series of films and large-scale photographs displayed at King’s Cross St Pancras, Euston, Highbury & Islington and Brixton from October 2016. The project, titled ‘Collecting Lines’, is a poetic reflection on networks, mapping and movement, exploring the Victoria line from unusual and often unseen perspectives.

The projects that I have looked at all have connections with travel, transport etc so me displaying my work which refers to the tube disaster in the tube station makes sense.

There is loads more projects which I will be looking at to see if I find any inspiration and also how the display of the film and audio has been approached as because tube stations are busy and loud I need to bear in mind that mind be tricky.
