Going back to my previous blog Final Major Project: Initial concept I am doing research into book layout and looking at books for inspiration. I am doing it even though I haven’t got the images yet however I want to have an idea of what it may look like. Like I said I don’t want my book to be simply images and type but make it a bit more interactive. I have thought of including my drawings from childhood but I quickly remembered I haven’t got any as they were destroyed by my lovely brother.
I am aware that I may not be able to create that many images to fill up a big book but I am not worried about that.
I have looked at some examples on Pinterest of images and type layouts.
I have then looked at some examples of books and here is few I liked and I will explain why.
What I like about those examples is the big bold type that looks hand written and the size of the fonts and style of the fonts varies yet it works well in my eyes. Also it reminds me of like a diary or a notebook where drawings and shapes are giving it a dynamic feel.
I still have few photographs from my childhood with me which I can add to the book but if I had all of them plus drawings from my childhood I know I would have more images to play with.
I have also looked at some memory diary books
That kind of reminded me of the books I looked before but in the neat version. Well research will carry on and when I have all my images done I will have better idea of what to do. I am cracking on with creating so as I have enough time to focus on putting everything together.
When I was making my “Collection book” Collection book is here! I was wary that my images are colourful and didn’t want to make it too messy as I have a tendency of not knowing when to stop. It came out looking more like a phonebook which was my aim when you read about the project and then just look through the images. Same with my portfolio Portfolio draft I am careful as I don’t want anything to distract from my images which are the main focus.
This time however images I will make are like photographs from the mental image of the memory so I want them to be incorporated with the type and any additional images I may create.
When it comes to the type I have made clay type for my portfolio and I am thinking of creating illustrative type for my book, maybe fabric or other material. I quite like the interactive aspect of it.
